Working Principle

The Solidaire is a unique paddle dryer using hot air or gas as drying media in combination with a heating jacket. The Bepex Solidaire dryer can continuously and efficiently dry, heat, cool or react solids, slurries and viscous materials.

The Solidaire consist of a mechanical agitator within a cylindrical housing which is jacketed.

The agitator is designed with a large number of narrow, flat, adjustable pitch paddles which sweep close to the inner of the housing. Residence time can be varied from seconds to aprox. 20 minutes by adjusting paddle pitch or by changing the rotor speed.

High paddle speed creates turbulence in a thin material layer, breaking up agglomerates and continually exposes new material to the heated surface.

The unique quick dispersion of liquids and the transformation into a dry powder makes this technology suitable for a variety of products such as:

  • Filter cakes

  • Slurries from centrifuges

  • Wet solids from decanters

  • Press cake after press filtration

  • Schematic sketch of the 2 heating principles of the Solidaire
The Solidaire dryer is a universal dryer combining direct and indirect drying. Heat is basically transferred into the product through a jacketed vessel. Typically, a counter-flow of gas assists to evaporate the solvents and volatiles.

Based on the application, different sources of heat can be used:

  • Hot-Air (either directly heated by gas burning or through an heat exchanger).

  • Nitrogen closed loop for explosive materials.

  • Superheated steam for higher capacities and sterilization of products.

  • Main features of the Solidaire paddle dryer

  • Very high evaporation capacity requiring minimal maintenance

  • Maximum drying efficiency due to the combination of direct and indirect dryer

  • Variable residence time from seconds to approximately 20 minutes

  • Adjustable paddles and speed up to 20m/s

  • Different temperature for different sections of the jacketed vessel

  • Outside mounted bearings and seals for minimal maintenance

  • Reliability & quality of manufacturing
