Working Principle

The Schugi Fluidized Bed Dryer / Cooler is a custom designed dryer, particularly designed to dry freshly made granular materials in a continuous process.

This is a stationary dryer without any moving parts and can therefore be up-scaled to almost any size. Product height in the bed can be varied between 100 and about 500 mm (average 300 mm), depending on the application. The wet granular material fall into a mass of partly dried product and avoid blocking of the hot air distributor plate.
Adjustment of the bed height allows the residence time of the product in the dryer to be varied in accordance with the process requirements.
The fluid bed dryer / cooler is divided into several compartments for a quasi plug flow of product.
The dried and cooled product is extracted using a special conveyor which determines the product height in the fluid bed and therefore the residence time.
Generally, the fluid bed consists of the drying sections (the first compartments at the product inlet) and a cooling section (at the product outlet).
For each compartment is provided with a separate air inlet. Heating of the air can be done by using the following medias: steam, natural gas, or other heating medium, depending on the availability.
For cooling, either ambient air or cooled / conditioned air can be used depending on the requirements.

Main features of the Schugi Fluid Bed Dryer / Cooler:

  • Each fluid bed is custom designed

  • Especially suitable to dry agglomerates made in the Flexomix

  • Designed to avoid uncontrolled post-agglomeration

  • Plug flow with controlled residence time

  • Relatively high fluidisation air velocity possible for high heat transfer or classifying effect

  • Static (stationary) dryer, almost no size limitation, no moving parts, hardly any wear, no noise, no vibrations (foundation to be designed for static loads only).

  • High product layer of material prevents blinding of the air distributor plate below the product inlet.

  • Tapered fluidizing chamber minimizes entrainment / product carry over with the exhaust air, limiting dust emission and dust recycle stream.
