ATEX

Effective July 1st, 2003, all products placed on the market or put into service in the EU for use in classified zones with potentially explosive atmospheres must comply with the ATEX directive..

The basic principles set out in the ATEX Directive for explosion prevention and protection are (in order of priority):
  • The prevention of the formation of explosive atmospheres, or where the nature of the activity does not allow that...
  • The avoidance of the ignition of the explosive atmospheres, and ...
  • The mitigation of the detrimental effects of an explosion so as to ensure the health and safety of workers.





Hosokawa Micron BV and its experts are capable of advising customers in the proper evaluation and classification of the explosion risks in their installation and selecting the appropriate equipment for the classified areas. Naturally all Hosokawa equipment can be certified for the various relevant safety categories.

The measures shown above shall be reviewed regularly and always when significant changes occur. The employer shall classify places where explosive atmospheres may occur into zones. The employer shall ensure that the minimum measures are applied to places classified into zones.
